Green Meadows Petting Farm in Ijamsville, Maryland, provides a fun-filled farm experience for the whole family!
Green Meadows is open every day of the year except Thanksgiving and Christmas. The hours are 10am to 4pm on weekdays and 10am to 5pm on weekends and holidays. Closed New Year’s Day, Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
There is no admission fee at this family fun attraction but donations are gladly accepted! The suggested donation per person/per family is $10 but everyone leaves happy whether they give $1 or $10!
When you arrive at Green Meadows Petting Farm you first pay your donation at the shed next to the parking lot (credit cards and cash accepted). While you are standing there look to your left and you will see the main farm area. In this area are many more animals than at Farm Park – pigs, sheep, cows, goats, emus, peacocks, ducks and rabbits.
Entering the gate take a right turn – we start with what might be your favorite animal: chickens! Chickens of all kinds including mostly Jersey Giants (the state bird of Maryland), Ameraucana and Easter Eggers. You can actually hold several breeds if you would like – just ask an attendant in the coop near the entrance of the chicken yard. You will also find Guinea Fowls here which people think is chickens until they get close enough to see the different coloring.
As you proceed down the path you will find a large barn which houses mostly baby animals including Guinea Hoglets, Nigerian Dwarf Goat kids, Pygmy Goat kids and Cavy (guinea pig) babies.
There is also a play area for children with wooden climbing structures and hay to crawl through/over. Great photo ops here!
Next to this building are the pigs in all their glory – Pot Bellied Pigs and several breeds of young hogs can be found here though we tend to have mostly Gloucestershire Old Spots at any given time.
